Army Wives and Partners

Bobby and I have been together for over 6 years now and married for just over 9 months.
In the grand scheme of things it's not a very long time I suppose, but it's long enough that I know my life would not be the same without him. It would be, well, less, Less everything.

He has been in the army for 2 years now so safe to say I'm used to some of the hang ups associated with army life.
It is hard!
Really hard!

And it is 100% something that I never wanted.
I'm not ashamed to say that. I never wanted him to go into the army.
But I would never stop him from following his goals.
I will support him for the rest of his life and though I never wanted the life he chose I will forever be extremely proud of all of his achievements and the person that he is (because he is the most amazing man to grace the planet!)

I am the first to admit that as far as the lives of army wives go, mine is simple.
  1. I am not expected to follow Bobby from place to place so can stay at home and finish my degree.
  2. He (so far) has never been deployed anywhere. I pray that this never happens.
  3. We don't have children yet.
But with this I still have the painful goodbyes and the gap where my husband should be.
We spend more of our marriage apart as we do together.
I still worry if he has gone on exercise and I haven't received a text confirming he's safe and there.
I still miss him when I'm spending another night alone or when there's a special occasion that he isn't here for. (It's my birthday the 2nd and his the 25th and we won't see each other)

I constantly get told "oh I couldn't do what you do".
'What do I do?'
I live my life and wait to see my husband.
But in reality it takes so much more.
Most women get home from work and tell their husbands about the day they have had.
As an army wife I don't do that, and if I do it's over the phone.

I'm pretty sure that not everyone feels the way that I do about begin an army wife but I salute each and every army wife/partner.
You are strong!

As much as I struggle with the negatives of this life I still am so grateful for what my husband does and who he is. I honestly wouldn't change him for the world and I know that he is doing all he can now to secure a better future for us and our family.

It's hard to be an army wife/partner but it will always be worth it.

Stay safe,
Paige

My little blog...

Oh my little blog.
I am afraid that I have been incredibly neglectful!

Life has been so busy lately!

I am in my 3rd year at uni (almost a qualified mental health nurse!)

I am married!
May 14th 2016

My husband is a solider in the British Army. I suppose I will post more about this as its becoming paramount in my life lately.

I have been swamped with uni work and spending as much time as I can with Bobby.
Anyway this is just a stop by to let you know that I will try harder to maintain my lovely little blog!

Stay safe,

Keeping up apperances

Hi Lovelys!

I know I haven't posted since June! But I have been really busy.
So I finished college & am now a qualified nursery nurse.
I got a new job (not as a nursery nurse) in a hospital.
I have moved house!
(Pictures will follow once my room is finally sorted)
&
Bobby bought me an early Christmas present that comes in the form of this beauty.
This is Tyrion!
Yes Tyrion. Like GoT. I know but I liked the name and the character so voilĂ !
He is 8 weeks old & has just had his first lot of jabs.
Isn't he adorable!
He is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which obvs means he is dangerous & vicious

See how vicious he is!
I've even already had a women pull her child away from him, whilst he was in his carry cage, as soon as I told her he was a Staffy. I have to say it did piss me off. As you can see he is so sweet & harmless but if that kind of behaviour persists around Tyrion, it won't be him that people will need to worry about. Mama will show you aggressive.
My 4 year old brother absolutely adores him so how can he be a danger.
I'm getting sick of telling people that it's not the breed it's the owner that makes them dangerous.

Anyway Tyrion has now learnt his name, to sit and to shake.

He's so clever!

He may only be little at the moment but he is a valued member of our family & we all love him dearly.

Stay safe

Taking Stock!

Well HELLOOO blog enthusiasts!

So the other day I was blog hoping and having a little look around our tiny blog corner of the internet and came across the cutest blog called A Girl Behind A Lens. Well anyway Chloe had found this post on another blog called Taking Stock and decided to do it too. And you'll never guess what; I am also going to do it :)
I honestly think it's a really good way to just do a quick mood check and with terms coming to a close you tend to find yourself with all this time on your hands and not really knowing how you feel about it.
So here it goes:

Wasting: away (I need food soon)
Fixing: my blog

Nivea Day Cream!

Hi Lovelys!

So today I wanted to share with you all my absolute fave day cream.

This is Nivea Visage Tinted Moisturising Day Cream.
You can get this from Superdrug for just £1.70 per 50 ml!
So it definitely doesn't break the bank.
Personally I think that this is a great product. It evens out skin tone and enhances your skins natural glow. As far as the moisturising goes, it works but due to how my skin is I still have to apply more moisturiser to dry areas.
I am very prone to spot outbreaks so having a product like this that moisturises and tints is a blessing. The days of cake like foundation are gone and I don't have to worry about getting more spots from wearing it. It is so light on your skin that it literally feels like you have nothing on.
Another great thing about this product is that you really don't have to use a lot of it. I have the 50ml and I have had it for well over a month now and it's still pretty much full.
You get much more then your moneys worth!
If anyone else uses this product or maybe has a different opinion about it feel free to comment.

Wedding present

Hi Guys!
So I came across this website whilst checking out www.practicaleverafter.co.uk's blog today.
This website is called Patchwork Present

www.patchworkpresent.com
This website allows you to create your own wedding present that you would like to receive from your guests. So instead of your great aunt Mildred buying you both an extra television remote that you will never use, you can ask her to put some money toward, say, your honeymoon.
Basically you set up the one big present and inform all of your guests that if they do want to get you something or contribute to your wedding that you would prefer it if they just donated a little money to your patchwork present.
I know we aren't really into the whole present list thing in England and we don't tend to expect much from our wedding guests but I think that this is an amazing idea!
At least this way you won't have to search for space to put your fancy silver dessert spoons that you will never use.

Seriously though if you are planning on getting married soon you should really check out the website.

Father's Day!

Hi Guys!

So today is fathers day as you all know.
I would like to wish my dad a lovely day.

My dad and I. 02/03/1993
We don't really see eye to eye and our relationship is pretty touch and go.
It's been very hard for me because of things that have happened in the past to let go of the resentment.
But I have tried my hardest and I know that sometimes I may not appreciate him as much as I should.
Regardless of our ups and downs I still realise how lucky I am to have a dad and have had the opportunity to have a relationship with him, even if it isn't the kind of father/daughter relationship I had hoped for.
No matter what happens or has happened I will always love my dad.
He is the only one I will ever have.
Happy father's day Dad!

I would also like to say happy father's day to my mother.

My Mum and I. 1996

There have been long periods in my life when she has been both my mother and father.
It must have been really hard for her to take on both roles, especially knowing that my dad was still a part of my life.
She did such a good job raising me and I would like to thank her for everything she has done for me and no doubt is yet to do for me.
I love you Mum.
Always.

The fact of the matter is without both of them, there would be no me.
I am eternally grateful to both of them for everything.
They can never be replaced.

Homemade Indian style curry

Hi Guys!
I know I haven't posted in ages but things have been pretty hectic. My apologise.

So today I have spent some time making a gorgeous Chicken Curry to have for dinner tomorrow & I thought I would share the recipe with you lovely lot.

My yummy curry!
You will need:
2 onions
butter
meat of your choice
tin of tomatoes
Spices:
Garamasala
Cumin
Turemeric
Curry powder
Chilly power
Paprika
Coriander

This recipe can be adapted to suit your tastes very easily.

So slice the onions up how ever you like them (Personally I chopped mine)
Put them into a large saucepan with about 3 nobs of butter and cook them until they are soft.
Once the onions are done add the meat (Bare in mind that if frozen you will need to defrost the meat and cut it up into chunks or slices) and then give it a good stir.
After that add the spices. It will depend of exactly how spicy you want your curry but I add half a tea spoon of Chilly powder, 2 tea spoons of Curry powder and then 1 teaspoon of the rest of the spices. Once they have all been added stir it well so the meat can absorb the spice. Allow this to cook for about 5 minutes.
Now add the tomatoes. This again can be adapted. As I don't really like tomatoes I only added half a tin to my curry and I also blended it before I added it. If your a fan of tomatoes then it's okay to just tip the whole tin in. Again stir the curry.
If the curry looks a little dry then add some water.
Cook on a low heat for 1 hour and make sure that it doesn't boil dry.
Once it is all cooked leave the curry to rest before serving.
Personally I like to have mine the next day so that it has properly rested and is lovely and thick.

Then enjoy!
Simple as that.

Hope you have some fun making it!

La Asile.

This was the last one!
We had been looking all day, but this one; well this was the one I'd been most excited about!
Bobby and I had traipsed up and down and even around to try and find a venue for the biggest day of our lives. This last place drew me to it like a moth to a flame. It's expansive timber beams, huge wooden medieval doors, the wide bay windows. This place was like a time capsule. Every aspect of it was a different relic of centuries passed. This exquisite hall represented every part of my patchwork personality and we hadn't even stepped inside yet.
'La Asile' as the house was named, by one of those charming wooden plaques, seemed like perfection. I immediately started to mentally plan where I wanted the wedding car to pull up and where the flowers would be arranged outside. Bobby could see me plotting and suggested we actually look inside the property unless we were going to get married in the front garden. Though if the house was a let down, that wasn't such a bad idea!
As we stepped over the threshold all warm, fuzzy feeling that I'd had outside immediately left me, replaced with icy tingles and sudden paranoia. The house was rather dark, especially considering it was bright as day outside so Bobby went to hunt for the lights to make things easier. A grand staircase stood parallel to where I was right by the door. I shook off the silly feeling of threat and started into the sitting room. The sitting room had to be at least 5 times the size of my little old living room. The beautifully detailed, vast fireplace stood presence over the room. The divine turquoise panelled walls, draped with paintings of lives past pulled me in further, tugging on every historic heart string.
One thing though, did not seem to fit into this idyllic, well-preserved scene, a piece of paper, half tucked underneath the settee, crumpled and stained. I sat delicately on the full, black settee and lent forward to grab this paper. I uncrumpled the paper and smoothed it out meticulously against my leg then the settee.  It was a child's drawing of what looked like twins, one looked angry and the other scared. The angrier twin had glowing red eyes. I sat and thought about the wonders of a child's imagination and thought that if only I had the same, I should have the means to create some wondrous things and the money that follows. The longer I sat, the less comfortable I began to feel. I felt watched and the icy tingles returned again. Why was there a child's drawing in a place like this, as far as I know it didn't belong to a family it was a landmark of some sorts? I looked closer at the drawing and turned it over to investigate further. On the back was written 'GET OUT! OR YOU SHALL MEET THE SAME FATE AS THE REST OF US!' Well you didn't have to tell me twice. I abruptly stood and headed for the door. As I passed the full length gold mirror, something caught my eye. I stopped. I turned to face the mirror. Maybe I was just being paranoid, it was my reflection, exactly the same as me, expect, the red eyes. This time I ran for the door! As I reached the foot of the stairs it hit me, like a wave coming over me, like a vision. La Asile? The Asylum! The drawing didn't show twins it showed the different sides of himself! I stood there frozen as I watched the house do its work. The boy was young when he stayed here, it was long ago. Every time he would catch his reflection red eyes would be staring back, burning into his soul. Time sped up soon he would spend all day looking in the mirror at himself, uncomfortable smirk on his face. Until only a few short months after his arrival he strolled across to the mirror early one morning, glass in hand, I screamed and pleaded with him to stop. His eyes fixed on me as he looked in the mirror and with the piece of glass slowly slit his own throat. Suddenly I was back in the hall, sitting on the floor in floods of tears. I screamed at the top of voice for Bobby and he came running to me. I begged him to get me out of this house. We walked back over the threshold and down the path and as I looked back at this evil house of entrapment I then woke up from my dream and sat here writing about it as I could no longer sleep. I hate my nightmares :/

Wedding Ideas!

Hi Guys!

So as you all know I am (hopefully) getting married next year! Excited!
And I just wanted to share with you all some of the ideas I had for my wedding.

Well Bobby and I aren't looking at having a big wedding so we're not having a sit down meal or anything like that, literally just wedding then reception.

So you've already seen my d.i.y bouquet!
http://paigeduggan93.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/wedding-flowers.html
Which I love and am going to be making a single flower for each of my bridesmaids.

But there are a few other ideas that I have had so here they are:

We went to view a venue which was completely out of our price range and when it came to viewing the room where the actual ceremony would be taking place, I noticed that they had tea lights in jars all the way down the aisle. Needless to say I fell in love with the idea immediately!
http://behindtheaisle.com/new-borrowed-and-blue/2013/5/29/diy-glow-lanterns
Another thing I really want for my wedding day is a wish tree
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/blog/detail/wish-for-a-better-guest-book/
I love the idea that instead of carrying a big book around for people to sign wishing you luck, you can just place a beautiful little tree at the side of the room and your guests can just write small cards. I think they will be lovely to keep and look back on!

And the dress!
It has to be lace!

I want this one so much but I don't know where it's from so I'm going to have to search for one like it :(

If you have any other ideas please get in touch I would love to hear what you think!

Dandruff cure!

Hi Guys!

So for like the past month or so I have had really bad dandruff! I don't know why or how but I've never really had it before so I wasn't to sure how to deal with it. I looked up tons of remedies online, medicinal, herbal and so on just to see the different ways that people had gotten rid of their frankly embarrassing issue.
Obviously not my head but you get the picture!
One of the medicinal remedies I tried was the obvious anti-dandruff shampoo, Head and Shoulders. Well all it did was clean my hair really well and after using it for a good while, it was safe to say I was still not flake free!
I then found this medicinal shampoo called Alphosyl. It's a tar based product and contains tea tree oil which is obviously really good for the skin. I used this for a while to and still no change.
After trying a few different remedies I thought that maybe some of them might need to be combined in order to sort out my flaky issue.
And that is what I did and will continue doing every 2 weeks to ensure that the dandruff stays at bay.
My remedy is baby oil, salt and Alphosyl!
Sounds strange I know but bare with me and I'll give you a little how to.
  • So Saturday night I massaged (not rubbed!) baby oil into my scalp and left it it overnight. Don't worry about your pillows you can wear a shower cap or a turban to keep your pillow oil free.
  • The next day before washing the oil out I took quite a bit of salt (as much as you need don't be too sparing!) and I massaged it into my scalp. I presume it acts as a type of exfoliant and to be honest it felt so good on my scalp!
  • I then rinsed my hair really well and made sure that there was absolutely no oil or salt left in my hair before I washed my hair with the Alphosyl. You don't need to use a lot of Alphosyl because it lathers up really easily when your hairs wet, so I washed my hair with the shampoo twice then rinsed it so there was no shampoo still in my hair. Rinsing properly is really important because if you don't what can you get? Dandruff!

  • So anyway as soon as I dried my hair, which I left to dry naturally, there was hardly any flakes! I mean obviously there were still a few but compared to how bad it was before it was a dramatic change!

Now I know everyone reacts differently to different things so I'm not saying that this method will work 100% for you but give it a try, it might surprise you, it certainly surprised me!

How to: Home-made Cappuccino.

Hi Guys!

So maybe a lot of you already know how to make this or some of you might call it a milky coffee but the fact is it tastes just like Cappuccino!
And it is so easy to make!

Here's how:
Step 1- Fill your cup with milk.

You can add a touch of carnation milk as well if you like your Cappuccino quite thick and frothy.

Step 2 - Put it in the microwave for 2/2 and a half minutes.

If you making two Cappuccinos then put them both in for 3 minutes.

Step 3 - Add sugar if you take it.

Step 4 - Add coffee. However strong you like it.

Step 5 - Give it a good stir

Step 6 - Enjoy!

You can also add things like chocolate sprinkles or bits of flake to you Cappuccino!

Living with a 3 year old!

Hi Guys!

So maybe you have children or are planning to or maybe you have younger brothers/sisters like I do. Well I'm going to tell you what it's like to live with a 3 year old, especially a 3 year old boy.

The terror!
So this is my little brother, Luke, as you guys know I have another little brother and a little sister but I don't live with either of them. They live with my dad.

Living with Luke is lovely but completely exhausting!
He is on the go 24/7, never stops, only to sleep and he doesn't even need to much of that!

So here's a list of what it's like to live with my adorable baby brother!
  • I constantly have to check my shoes before putting them on because I can guarantee that he has hid something inside of them most of the time!
  • I know (unwillingly) all the Ben 10 aliens. It is on all the time!
  • As well as the power rangers. It was great when I was 3 but now, no.
  • Nothing I own is safe or sacred!
  • He is one of the best antidepressants ever!
  • He never fails to make me laugh
  • Constant worrying because he constantly falls over, hits his head, leg, arm, back and everywhere else!
  • There is no such thing as privacy! He just walks into my room and the bathroom! I've never been watch whilst on the toilet before now it's a regular occurrence.
  • The tantrums are incredible. Lots of screaming and crying! but the amazing thing is that he can switch it off straight away!
  • He is super manly when his dad is around but when it's just us and mum he is a massive softy!
  • He gives the best cuddles and kisses!
  • I laugh at him everyday because of something he does or says.
  • It has taught me a lot just by watching him grow and develop.
  • I have been proud of things that I thought I would never be proud of such as when he pooed on the toilet for the first time. I nearly cried!
  • I become frustrated really easily
  • We fight a lot regardless of the huge age gap. It's mostly because I don't let him get his own way.
  • And above all I love living with him. I love seeing him everyday. To wake up in the morning and see his chipper little face with a beaming grin, well, makes it all worth while.

Reiki?

Hi Guys!

So for my 21st birthday one of my clients got me a reiki session which I am doing this weekend. It's safe to say I have never done this before and am not to sure what it entails but I did a little research and this is basically what reiki is:

"Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy."

To be honest if anyone that reads this have undergone this, well, treatment (?) before please get in touch and tell me how it went for you!

So my client told me that I have to talk to the person doing the reiki first to go over any problem areas in my life and the first thing I thought was 'well we're gonna be there longer than an hour then!' but thinking about a relevant issue that I could possibly talk to the reiki master about proved quite hard until earlier today, then it hit me, sleep!
I had a lot of trouble sleeping because of my depression and anxiety but now my mental illness has kind of taken a back seat and now I sleep like a baby. Yet I'm still exhausted all day, everyday, regardless of how long I have slept or the quality of sleep I have had!

I figured that this would be a really good place to start and I know that things like this tend to be more mind over matter so to speak. That's why I'm going to go into my session with a completely open mind and think about how well this healing is going to make me sleep and how energetic I'm going to be when I'm awake!
Surely it can't hurt to try. And if it actually works, well then it looks like I will have found a solution for my fatigue.
Which would be very welcome!

Stay safe,
Paige

Hi Guys!

So never mind my 21st, it was Bobby's 21st 5 days before mine! I completely forgot to post this sooner because Bobby was over and I rarely get a chance to see him so was kind of consumed in spending time with him. Well any way I got him a birthday present which I gave him a week before his birthday and this was it:

Yep I took Bobby skydiving!
(Thats him in the orange :))

It was incredible! He jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet!
He loved every second of it and I am so glad that I could make it happen for him.
It means a lot that he enjoyed it seems he is going into the paras in April (and as far as I can figure, jumping out of planes is a daily occurrence in that job!

So here's some more of the photos!

Personally, I love this one :)
Hope you all like the pictures :)

Hard work!

Hi Guys!

So I had a really good day today! I've had nothing but praise off the placement I started at last Monday (said I was the best student they've ever had! Oh stop it) And today I got my results for my Unit 13 assignment which I actually really enjoyed doing and worked pretty hard on (I got an A!)

so pretty good news all around today. It makes me feel better to see that all my hard work is recognised and paying off!
So really good day..

..but then I came home and so did 'someone else' I live with, and in all honestly they've completely ruined my day!
I spend most of the time in my room and I suppose this person thinks that I'm just anti-social or something, but, the truth is I actually can not stand to be around them! And if I was around them for a long period of time, safe to say that it wouldn't take long before I was very ill again.

The hypocrisy drives me insane, the opinions given that were never asked for, the constant face that looks like they've just drank a pint of sour milk! I just can not deal with it day-in and day-out.
It upsets me because when I didn't live with this person I thought they were great but now, I honestly can't stand them! And I know it sounds terrible (and is for other reasons) but I can't keep just putting up with the constant moaning and ridiculous expectations that this person has!
It's like everything is expected of everyone else but nothing should be expected of them!
I will not tell this person anything about me whether good or bad because they will have always have something to say on the matter, whether it's their place to or not.
Especially with things that make me happy or I get excited about because this person will burst my bubble the first chance they get!
In all honestly it infuriates me more that I can not leave. I have no where else to go. Having to put up with it for the next 3 years whilst I'm in uni as well! I don't know if I can do it!

But on a positive note I have shared with you my good news! Sorry about venting but my blog is the only place that I feel safe enough to say these things.

Stay safe.

Surprise!

Hi Guys!
Sorry I know I haven't posted in a while but I've been really busy with everything :/.

So today is valentines (merrr) and as you know from my previous post about valentines day, I am not it's biggest fan but today I received something at my door which actually made my day.

And here it is:

It's real.

So after agreeing that we weren't celebrating valentines because of everything I mentioned in the previous post. Bobby had this delivered to my house anyway! And it is beautiful!

I have to admit, it did annoy me a bit because I don't like valentines day but the fact that I didn't know I was getting it was what made it special. He could have sent me this any day. It didn't matter that I was today.
People in relationships kind of just expect to get something for valentines day and that's okay because it's prearranged but getting something when you expected nothing feels so much better.

I honestly wanted to kiss him, then punch him!
And he's coming over on Sunday so I might just do that.

With our birthday's coming up soon it's going to pretty exciting as neither of us know what each other has got us. So it's pay back for this beautiful surprise that I told him not to get!

Thank you Bobby, because I know you read my posts. I love you so much, everyday.

Stay safe

I could not live without..

Hi Guys!

So I've complied a list of the things that I literally could not live without. Aside from the obvious you know, food, water, oxygen. So here's my list.

Number 1. Bobby.
For obvious reasons Bobby is s big part of my life and without him I honestly don't know where I would be. I love him more than anything.

Number 2. My family
Luke & I

Turner family

Me & Nan.

Me & Mum
I love my family so much. They drive me crazy but without them life wouldn't be the same.

Number 3. My laptop
Everything I do eventually ends up on my laptop. I use it to watch films, listen to music, when I'm bored and to do coursework. Without it I would have failed my course a long time ago.

Number 4. My engagement ring
I've gotten so used to wearing it that I literally feel naked if I don't have it on! (don't mind the fat fingers)

Number 5. My car (Finley)
I could not cope without my little car. Hopefully getting a new one soonish but still I couldn't carry on without a car.

Number 6. Contact lenses
I couldn't cope without my contact lenses and literally couldn't go back to wearing glasses.

Number 7. My diary
This cute little diary has everything in it. Appointments, special dates and things I need to remember.

Number 8. MY BED
I love my bed more than words can say! It's so comfy and getting into it after a long day is my kind of heaven.

Number 9. Scented candles
As you've just seen I love my bed but I don't sleep very well. These babies put me out like a light.

Number 10. Dry shampoo
Easy, simple, quick. When I don't have time this completely saves me.

Number 11. Brow kit
I can no longer live with not having my eyebrows done. Not drawn on, just filled in.

Number 12. Perfume

My two favourite perfumes. Smell gorgeous

Number 13. Vaseline
This weather does nothing for my lips so this tiny tub of vaseline stops them from cracking and looking just horrible!

So theres a few things I could not live without.
Stay safe.
